Readers Wanted! A Proposal for Bringing New Life to the Medium Platform

An untapped source of countless potential readers.

People rarely like change, especially not the ones who have benefited for so long from "the way it has always been."

Still a rookie here on Medium, I have felt undercurrents of anger, confusion, annoyance, and hope. People say everyone is leaving Medium; no one can make good money from this platform anymore; all the great former publications are shut down!

The changes will happen just as we've seen with the changes made on Twitter, YouTube, and Etsy. Some people will leave, and new ones will come and take their place.

Nothing can stop change, and, more often than not, great things can come from these changes — if we just give it a chance.

I do not know if these changes on Medium are for the best; heck, I couldn't even really tell you what the changes are or why they have come into place. But I did want to reflect upon a question I've had since I've come here...

Writers flock to this site for the advantage of an already established readership and community. They come here to be heard, make money, and connect to an audience of readers hungry for the written word.

Medium is comprised of writers, writers who are readers, and readers. Sadly, it feels like this last group of people who come just to read and enjoy is lacking.

As one might see from the myriad of articles written around the desperate hustle of finding your first 100 readers, it often feels like we're all just a bunch of passionate writers trying to scratch each others' backs and getting others to scratch ours.
