Latest is not always the greatest

When we think about new, we always think it is better, faster, more secure and more reliable either be it hardware, software. But it is not always like that, like with our case with new Laptops having Microphone issue.

Since this summer we have gotten new Laptops with freshly new developed processor from an AMD. That was exiting. New Hardware: faster, better, new technology. We were really excited about it, as the performance of the new CPUs is much better.

But that did not last long. Suddenly users of new Laptops realised that during Meeting Calls they are silent and there was no way to change it respectively boost it. That was a bit of hassle, as the latest Updates with the latest and greatest Drivers where installed. We knew that there was an Issue with Audio Driver. We waited for the new ones. 1 Month, 2 Months. Nothing. No new Updates are being rolled out. People where coming with this issue, but there was nothing what we could do, to fix it.

Until one moment, when we had lost patience to wait. We started to investigate a walk around to help users. Trying different drivers, we could not use the old ones as windows was not allowing to install old drivers. Thank you for that. We have found one, which worked much better. But it was not reliable. Then we saw that there is one driver from Microsoft. We tried to use it. It works. Microphone is once an again loud and clear, and we can even adjust the Volume, we can make it louder. Perfect. Issue was solved, people could once again communicate without a yelling.

At the end, I want to say. Be careful with Updates. In best IT Practices, you should always install the latest Updates, but sometimes they are not the best. That is a dilemma here. But that comes quite rare to play.
