HOW TO SOLVE A FINANCIAL HEALTH CRISIS

The financial health crisis began way before COVID-19.

Experts began sounding the alarm years ago. The truth is that as a society, our levels of consumption have been unsustainable for a long time. The pandemic only amplified the problem; it didn’t create it.

Humans are over-consuming beyond the means of our economy and, more importantly, of our planet.

The entire system was already a bubble waiting to explode before the coronavirus shutdowns began. Then, COVID-19 came as a wake-up call to make us slow down and maybe even stop.

However, this “crisis” brings us an opportunity for improvement.

Most people learn faster by pain than any other type of experience. I believe that looking back, we will find gifts and blessings that come out of this time. In my own life, I know that it was my adversity that made me who I am today.

This financial health crisis is our opportunity to operate differently, to change the world. This is the moment where each one of us takes responsibility for our response and our actions moving forward.

We have a 15 million-year-old brain that focuses on surviving, not on thriving.

You can start to take control by realizing that there are many things you can do, even when so much feels uncertain. You can decide how you spend your time, how you choose to respond, the influences you allow into your space, and where you put your focus.

Practice turning off the negativity to become a master of your attention. Direct it to where it matters.

Become intentional about what you choose to focus on and why. Remember, the subconscious mind (which is running the show 95% of the time) always needs to know the reason you are choosing expansion over fear.

Once you take control back of your attention, you need to decide if you will double down or pivot.

This means looking at your strengths, skills, and current occupation. Then, make the decision about staying in your existing lane or changing to a new one.

Remember, growth happens outside our comfort zone. Yet, some will have to make slight changes to their current way of making money, while others will have to make a complete U-turn.

If you are of the latter, spend some time looking at trends. Get a picture of where the economy and the world is moving. Develop the skills (or adapt your existing ones) to the trends people and businesses need.

Most people live their lives looking for someone to follow, to tell them what they should do and shouldn’t do. Yet, if we want to be successful, we must learn to challenge the status quo and find new solutions to our problems.

Make sure you are constantly asking the right questions.

Here are some you might want to change:

“I can’t do this” to “How do I do this?”

“I don’t have the money” to “How do I make money?”

“I don’t know anybody” to “Where can I meet this person?”

You get the drill. By asking the right questions and taking action on those answers, success becomes inevitable. Have you ever noticed that even when a successful person loses their wealth, they usually rebuild it? Why is this? Successful people know how to be resourceful, ask the right questions, and take action consistently. You can do the same.

Overconsumption is the driving force behind a financial health crisis.

Among the living species, we are the only one that consumes at a rate that is unsustainable for the planet. We are draining our resources at an alarming rate.

So it’s fair to say we need to change our approach to consumption. Because the truth is, consuming is not even making us any happier or healthier.

If we want to be happier and healthier, we need to focus on connection over consumption.

Imagine if Christmas meant time to connect instead of presents?

What we need is food, water, shelter, and love. It’s better for us and our planet when we change our beliefs about what’s really important.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. — African Proverb.

In our culture, we tend to think more about “me,” but the truth is that we all need each other. Maybe this is the moment we start spending less time worrying about the numbers on our 401k statements and more time finding creative solutions to our problems.

The good thing is, now more than ever, people are looking to connect. So, there is no better time to form new relationships or deepen your existing connections.

Humans are social creatures. The sooner we realize real connections are made outside social media, the better we’ll be.

These five simple steps can help us not only survive a financial health crisis but ultimately thrive because of it. Still, it is necessary to remember that just because these steps are simple, doesn’t mean we won’t require persistence. We must take action every day to rewire our beliefs and patterns to match the life we are choosing for ourselves and our future.

In these times, we can either stay scared or embrace the situation, taking the opportunity by the horns.

What will you be choosing?
