Python Installation Tutorial on Ubuntu and Windows

Python is a programming language that lets you work quicklyand integrate systems more effectively. It was launched in 1991 and got popularity roughly after 2011. Before January 2020, Python had two versions, namely Python 2 and Python 3. After January 2020, support for Python 2 was officially stopped and python developer community is urging users to move and adapt to Python 3.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to install python 3 in Ubuntu and Windows. Installation on other operating system should be the similar.

Steps:

3. Hover the mouse pointer over “Downlods” section in the header menu.

4. After you bring the mouse pointer over “Downloads” section, it should look something like this

5. Click on “Python 3.8.2” button as shown in the above image.

6. Once you click on it, download will start for your respective OS.

7. If you’re on Ubuntu OS, a tar.xz file will be downloaded.

8. To install Python from the downloaded file, open a terminal and go the path where the file is downloaded.

9. Once the path is set to the folder where the downloaded file exists, type in the terminal

10. The above command extracts the downloaded file. Now type in the terminal

11. After the “sudo make install” command, type in the terminal “python [dash “-”] [dash “-”]version

12. It should look something like this

13. Once you get the output as above, Python is succesfully installed in your Ubuntu machine.

14. For windows users, after you clicked on “Python 3.8.2” button in the “Downloads” section, an exe file gets downloaded.

15. Just open the exe file by double-clicking on it.

16. Once the installer opens, just check the box besides “Add Python 3.8 to PATH” and click on the “Install Now” button above.

17. Once the installer is completed, Python should be installed in your Windows machine.

18. To check if Python is installed in your Windows machine, open Command Prompt and type “python [dash] [dash]version”.

If the command returns with a python version, then it is successfully installed.
