An Infinitely Loving Universe

Whenever something unexpected, challenging, or painful happens, I fall back on the following for solace and direction: Life doesn’t just happen to us, it happens for us…No matter what happens to us, it is an act of grace and love.* Life is our greatest teacher, and despite how it might feel at the time, every experience we encounter is perfectly tailored for our evolution.

Sometimes as a result of our naiveté, social conditioning, or fear we may wander off the path of our Soul’s journey in pursuit of certain desires or perceived needs. It is in these moments of mis-alignment that the higher Self/Universe/God/whatever-you-want-to-call-It, steps in with infinite compassion to help guide us back onto our True course.

Perhaps the correction happens in the form of an unfulfilled wish, a bruised heart, a professional impediment, or the like. From our limited vantage point, we may perceive this as a setback or “failure”; but in truth, this “failure” is just a stepping stone to something far greater. It is a call to go higher. Think of all the times you overcame a significant hurdle. What was once thought of as a defeating moment, in retrospect was a temporary way-station to far greater discovery. Yes, “failure” can fall along the spectrum of progress on our Soul’s journey. Such is the wisdom embedded in the ether of Existence.

These course-corrections are designed to bring necessary change into our lives. This change, if resisted by our protective egos, stir turbulence in thought which manifests as fearful emotions (emotions = thoughts in motion). It is experienced in the body as anxiety, pain, or dis-ease. Our higher Self seeks eternal alignment with the harmonious path of our True purpose. When we wander from this ordained balance, it cries out to lovingly guide us back onto the path which we have been called.

And so pain serves as one of our body’s alert signals; a cue through which we can re-adjust ourselves into healing and harmony. Yet, so many seek distraction from pain through play, work, substance mis-use, or willful denial. Doing so only numbs, abates, or postpones that which our Soul truly longs for. They who avoid, ultimately sentence themselves against their own joy and potential. The cycles of pain continue in current and future manifestations until the necessary adjustments are made.

The wise — made wise through many cycles of course-correction — feel and listen closely into the adjustment experience. The burning in a yogic pose, for example, is quenched through full acceptance, surrender, and the intentional flow of own’s breath and attention into the experience. In the same way the yogi’s body stretches and grows into greater flexibility and new dimensions; so too does the courageous Soul overcome its pain and expand into higher, sturdier, clearer vantage points. It is through this alignment process that unhelpful patterns are transcended, harmony is achieved; and our Soul expands as a part of the infinitely loving Universe.

Like crying babes we may resist change and cling desperately to what we know, even though it may not serve us. It is our own stubborn resistance, and not Love’s hand which causes us pain. For Love’s desires for us are far nobler and pleasing than we could ever conjure through our limited-sense perceptions. So, for those of us teetering on the edge of faith, let this be our reassurance: The Universal force which guides our evolution is Love; and Love only knows how to mold us into Greatness.

Tell me then, which of our experiences shall we still fear, when such magnificence awaits us?
