Start Small with Sponge Baths

Some babies, especially newborns, get overwhelmed when you put them in the tub with water. You must remember that this is their first time experiencing everything, which can get overwhelming quickly. It might be best to start small with a sponge bath, especially if bath time seems to cue the waterworks from your little one. Singing soft tunes to your baby while you bathe them can help them relax and have fun during bath time.

Set Up a Regular Bathing Routine

One way to help your little one relax and look forward to bath time is by being consistent with your routine. Many parents like to start bath time in the evening after the baby has eaten but before bedtime. But that doesn’t mean you have to stick to an evening routine. Plenty of parents like to make bath time a morning routine when their baby is a little livelier and more aware. When you bathe your baby is up to you but try to be as consistent as possible once you pick a time of day.

Be Conscious of the Water Temperature

A baby’s skin is much more sensitive than ours. Just because the water temperature feels fine on your hands doesn’t mean it won’t be too hot for your baby. A wet washcloth or sponge in warm water is a great way to start. Always test the water’s temperature on the inside of your wrist before you use it on your baby’s skin.
