Merry Happy Whatever

The Netflix series might have inspired me to start writing again, in a weird and indecipherable connection.

Christmas is coming, and perhaps and hopefully you’re gonna be surrounded by people you love (and that drive you crazy in the same time). This time, listen to them and take them as they are, have more compassion and understanding (note to self), share the laughs and the warmth from your heart.

When you were born, you already came with a package: family. Cherish and enjoy the moments with them, because time flies so quickly and you won't get to see them so often or other people decide to move on a better place in paradise.

For me Christmas was always about spending time with my family. I have so many good memories about this holy time of the year.

I remember Santa Claus visiting us when we were kids, later when we grew up we found out that Santa was our next door neighbor. My sister and I told him poems and sang him carols while our parents took lots of pictures. We wrote him letters, asking for more toys and costumes of Sailor Moon (girls only band anime, equivalent of nowadays Guardians of the Galaxy).

Santa as we know it today was invented in the 20th century by Coca Cola. I’m curious how people celebrated Christmas before that, probably with no gifts and only going to the church.

My home country is Romania. Here Christmas season is a big deal, everyone wants to impress guests with cakes, food, decorations, you name it. Don’t get me wrong, I love every part of it, oh the smell of freshly baked cookies, the Christmas tree lights, the snow. One thing i wish changed is our perception of food. Even though the supermarkets are closed maximum 2 days, people stock up on too much products, cook for a week and overeat.
